Harvey Relief – Digging In For The Months Ahead
This past weekend we officially ended our continuous presence in Houston since the onset of the flood and hurricane relief. We are so thankful the Lord provided over 50 volunteers come in the past weeks to help!
We ended the week with helping rebuild some damaged homes by hanging drywall and fixing roofs. We were also able to have a team come on the weekend specifically to distribute dozens of food boxes and hundreds of clothing items people sent to us.
One printing company in California, Best Ink And Thread, even sent us over 1,000 new t-shirts (the black and red shirts in the picture) and polos with a special message on them for Texas flood victims.
It was the Lord’s kindness that brought together all these volunteers and donors literally from across the country – and world (we had helpers from Mexico and Canada too) – to help total strangers in Houston and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
For all those involved in volunteering or financially supporting the work, we want to thank you directly for your sacrifice to the Lord and labor of love! We trust it was not in vain.
As noted last week, the work in Houston is not done. We still have several homes on our wait list that need a total rebuild from ceilings to floors. We have other needs requests still coming in for home clean outs too, especially for the elderly.
We are digging in for the long haul and coordinating with volunteers able to come for 1-3 days and focus just on a specific project we still have pending for close out.
We cannot support the general support approach we had continued doing for 5 weeks of covering all needs requests in the area, but we are still committed to finishing the needs we started.
We will need help from volunteers. We do not actually need further financial donations at this point (and thus closed the Harvey Relief fund donation point as of this week). We expect to have a sufficient amount of funds for materials to finish the remaining needs if we are able to find skilled volunteer labor to come down for various 3-day projects between now and December 2017.
However, we would not be able to finish these projects if we had to hire out labor too, so please prayerfully consider coming to help if you have some vacation days and are able to swing a hammer or hang drywall.
You can contact us directly if you are interested. Thank you, and please pray for the Gospel seed sown amongst the dozens of families helped this past month!
