We are already in the middle of a busy summer, and that includes Syrian refugee English classes for 40-50 children, teenagers and adults. Please pray for these classes!
We are resuming our free refugee English classes at our location in the Middle East this summer, like we have done for the past two years, and are very thankful we have two committed teachers here all summer long to help. We have three classes a week for anybody who wants to come, and so far have filled up most available seats in the beginner and advanced classes. Each class involves basic grammar, vocabulary, conversation and learning a Bible verse in English. Time is given to go over the meaning of the verses as well, and it provides a good ‘seed’ for sharing truth with these students!
While we require the children sponsored in the Education Assistance Program to attend classes to ensure they improve their English to succeed in the UN schools during normal fall/spring semester, many of the kids coming are relatively new ones we are just beginning to get to know. We are thankful for the opportunity, as these classes often provide a very good way to get to know new Muslim families in the community and remove any fear they have of meeting the “Evangelicals” they’ve heard about.
Please remember these classes as they continue into the remainder of summer. Pray for these students to study hard and learn English well. Even a basic grasp of English can not only help them succeed in the UN schools (where much of the higher level curriculum is conducted in English) but also with finding work within the tourism industry here as translators. It is our desire to provide these students with a spiritual blessing through hearing truth in these classes as well as a tangible blessing from a skill they can use to improve their challenging situation as a refugee!
